This volume gathers writings from the Oxford English Limited journal News from Nowhere (1986-92), which carried out a spirited campaign for institutional reform on behalf of literary theory, cultural studies and women’s writing in the Oxford University English Faculty, the largest English studies department in the country. A substantial Introduction looks back at the Oxford English Limited campaign from the vantage-point of the early twenty-first century and situates it in the wider ‘literary theory wars’ which so transformed English studies in the 1980s.
